Rabbi Jay and Rebbetzin Judy Shupack
Rabbi Jay comes to us after serving as the Rabbi for the Jewish Community of Central Oregon for 20 years. He brings a passion for all things Jewish, especially creating community, leading song-filled spiritual and meaningful services, and supporting families in times of joy and sadness. Rabbi Jay enjoys written and spoken Hebrew, teaching about Jewish history, and engaging in interfaith dialogue. He lived, worked, and studied in Israel for 5 years. Rabbi Jay graduated cum laude from the University of Arizona in 1977, received his MA in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from Antioch University in 1980, and was ordained by the Va’ad HaRabanim in New York in 2000.
Rebbetzin Judy is passionate about children, illuminating Hebrew letters, gardening and yoga. She aspires to illustrate Children’s books! She graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a BA in Fine Arts in 1974. Judy completed graduate work at Cal State Northridge in Education and Art Therapy in 1979. She has lived, worked, and studied in Israel for 3 years. Judy has been a Jewish educator for over 43 years, and recently retired from 12 years in Alternative education for the Bend La Pine School District. Judy and Jay have been married for almost 40 years, have 3 amazing children and 2 outstanding grandsons! They are hoping to grow and nurture the Jewish community of Yakima and Kittitas Counties, with outreach to Tri-Cities and even Wenatchee. They are looking forward to the next chapter in their rabbinic journey! |
